How To Pick The Right Size Washing Machine

Choosing the right size washing machine for your family can be confusing. When you see the capacity listed by kg it is hard to know how much washing the machine will actually washing in a load, frankly is would be easier if they listed the capacity in the number for baskets you could fit in!

We have created a quick and easy guide to help you choose the right sized washing machine for your family. Rent to buy a brand new washing machine with us and we will help you choose the right one for your lifestyle.

Firstly let’s ask you some questions ….

How many people are in your family?

If it is just you and your partner you may find you only need a small washing machine around 5-7kg. This size machine can generally fit approx 25-30 items of light clothing. If however you have an average sized family of 2 adults and 2-3 kids an 8-10kg washing machine would be more suitable.

How many loads of washing would you generally do a day and how big is your drying space?

Even if you have a small household you may have more washing than average. It is important to take this into account and also the fine balance of washing machine capacity and the size of your drying space. For example, there is no point in filling a 10kg washing machine with 50 items of clothing if you only have the space to dry 30 items. It is also important that you restrict running your washing machine half-full as this can lead to excessive water waste and larger water bills.

Do you wash a lot of heavy items such as towels, blankets etc. ?

If you are looking at a smaller washing machine such as a 5-7kg it may not be large enough to wash blankets, sheets or large towels. When searching for a washing machine it is important to assess how often you wash bulky or heavy items and if you opt for a smaller machine you may need to make trips to a laundromat to wash your quilts and blankets as needed.

It’s confusing right?

It absolutely can be confusing shopping for a new washing machine so here is a little cheat sheet to help.
